The SPARK Child Mentoring program is a comprehensive school-based initiative developed by Trivandrum's MindfulCDC child development center. The program's unique approach focuses on cultivating social, emotional, and cognitive skills rather than simply modifying behaviors.
Connecting with the Inner "SPARK"
SPARK's core is the belief that all children possess an inherent capacity for resilience, self-awareness, and healthy psychological functioning. By guiding students to connect with this inner "SPARK" of wisdom and intuition, the program empowers them to understand themselves better, manage their emotions, and build strong relationships.
Addressing Key Developmental Needs
Through interactive lessons and activities, SPARK addresses key developmental tasks and social-emotional competencies tailored to elementary school-aged children. Topics covered include self-awareness, decision-making, problem-solving, and emotional regulation - all essential skills for navigating their challenges and responsibilities.
A Sustainable Approach
Unlike traditional SEN(Special Educational Needs) programs, SPARK does not aim to directly change children's thoughts, feelings, or behaviors. Instead, it helps them access their natural inner resources and resilience, leading to more sustainable positive outcomes. The program reinforces students' ability to manage relationships, meet expectations, and overcome adversity by uncovering and strengthening these innate capacities.
Delivered by Experts
The SPARK program is delivered by Mindful CDC’s team of experienced psychologists and special education experts. This evidence-based approach has demonstrated significant improvements in students' understanding of program principles, communication skills, emotional regulation, and overall resilience.
